2 Reasons Why It's Important to Have a Broken Industrial Air Conditioning System Fixed Promptly

Posted on

If the air conditioning system in an industrial facility breaks, it's important for the owner of that facility to have it fixed by an air conditioning repair specialist as soon as possible. Read on to find out why.

It could impair an employee's ability to do their work safely and efficiently

Working in a warm environment where there is no air-conditioning can affect a person's energy levels, as well as their ability to focus.

In an industrial setting, this could be very problematic. If for example, the high room temperatures make the facility's employees feel lethargic, they may struggle to carry out their assigned tasks as quickly as they normally do. This could slow down the speed with which the facility's products are processed which could, in turn, affect the facility's profitability.

Additionally, if an employee who is responsible for operating a large piece of equipment is struggling to concentrate because of the excessively hot temperatures in the facility, they could end up making a serious error which could lead to them or those around them sustaining an injury.

For instance, if a member of staff is using a forklift to transport materials around the facility, and the stifling heat inside the building makes it hard for them to remain focused, they could end up accidentally hitting one of their co-workers with the equipment, or driving the equipment into a wall or another piece of machinery.

In short, failing to repair a broken air conditioning system in an industrial facility could have serious consequences, both for the owner of that facility and for their staff members.

It could lead to employees developing heat-related illnesses

If an industrial facility's air conditioning system breaks during a bout of very warm weather and the owner of the facility doesn't get it repaired promptly, there is a chance that their employees could end up developing heat-related illnesses.

Working in a hot environment for an extended period of time could, for example, lead to a person developing heat exhaustion.

This condition can cause headaches, nausea, extreme lethargy and dizziness. Whilst heat exhaustion is not considered to be a life-threatening illness, most people who suffer from it need to rest and rehydrate in order to make a full recovery. As such, any employees who develop this condition would almost certainly need to take at least a day or two off work.

Employees who need to perform strenuous physical tasks in an excessively hot environment could also be at risk of developing a much more serious illness, called heatstroke. Heatstroke can cause disorientation, cramps, breathlessness and seizures; because of this, a person suffering from this illness will usually need to be hospitalised.

As such, if the air conditioning malfunctions during a period of warm weather, it is extremely important for the owner of the facility to have it repaired immediately.
